Property Inspectors

 

Pursuant to 26 V.S.A. §§ 1051-1095, property inspectors in Vermont soon must obtain licensure.  Property inspectors are governed by the “advisor” model of regulation, created by the Legislature. Two members of the profession, appointed by the Secretary of State, advise the director of the Office of Professional Regulation (OPR) on matters relating to the profession. Their mission is public protection. The director and the advisors carry out this mission by ensuring that applicants are qualified for licensure; setting standards for the profession by proposing statutes and adopting administrative rules; and, with the assistance of OPR staff, investigating complaints of unprofessional conduct and taking disciplinary action when necessary to protect the public.

Interested parties are encouraged to explore the proposed Administrative Rules for Property Inspectors and to offer public comment as described in the Invitation to Comment.  Understanding of the proposed Rules is greatly enhanced by familiarity with the profession's governing statutes, 26 V.S.A. §§ 1051-1095, which define the practice of the profession and contain important exemptions from licensure requirements.
