Trade Names | General Partnerships | Limited Partnerships
Renewals for Corporations, Nonprofits, MBEs, LLCs, and LLPs are accomplished through Annual or Biennial Report filng. Please see "Annual/Biennial Reports" for details.
Trade names must be renewed every five years. You may only renew within the two months prior to your trade name expiration date. You will be notified at the beginning of the renewal period and will be provided with instructions on how to file your renewal.
Failure to renew your trade name during your two-month renewal period will result in the expiration of your trade name—terminating both your authority to do business in the state of Vermont under that business name and your sole rights to your business name. To reactivate your trade name, you will need to (re)apply for a trade name registration.
Coming soon: Trade name renewals will be available for online filing.
General partnerships expire five years following the initial registration or most recent amendment. To renew your general partnership, you must file an amendment. Please see “Amendments & Updates.”
Failure to maintain or update your general partnership at least once every five years will result in the expiration of your trade name—terminating both your authority to do business in the state of Vermont under the partnership’s business name and your sole rights to your partnership’s business name. To reactivate your general partnership, you will need to (re)apply for a general partnership registration.
Limited partnerships are, uniquely, not renewed on a specific schedule. Limited partnerships expire upon the termination date provided in their initial registration—or as updated by amendment. To extend the termination date of your limited partnership, you must file to amend your termination date. Please see “Amendments & Updates.”
