    Scope: Series consists of correspondence, memos, minutes, publications, reports, and photographs. The commission was created by a 1964 executive order from Governor Philip Hoff to identify barriers to, and propose solutions for, equality for women. There is material on the commission's work to change statutes discriminatory towards women, to pass the federal and the state Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), to amend the Vermont constitution to reflect gender-neutral language, to educate employers on affirmative action, to help women learn job-hunting techniques, and to combat domestic violence. The commission became an independent government agency in 2002, changing the name to the Vermont Commission on Women.
