    Scope: Series consists of 7 Public Safety and Highway Patrol photographs, including 3 panoramic photos of troopers and their motorcycles. The functions of the Highway Patrol (part of the Motor Vehicle Department) were transferred to the Department of Public Safety when it was created in 1947.

    Scope: Series consists of approximately 80 photographs and a copy of a scrapbook containing newsclippings about the State Police. The photographs were take by Major Andrew Monti, who also compiled the scrapbook. The photographs document activities of the Department of Public Safety from its creation in 1947 to 1968. Included is a photo of Governor Gibson swearing in the first Commissioner Merrit Edson July 1, 1947, and Governor Gibson inspecting recruits at the first Vermont State Police Academy in Vergennes, 1949. There are a number of group photos of State Police Recruit Classes at Barre Academy, as well as shots of troopers' target practice, dusting for fingerprints, patrol cars, State Police exhibits and various ceremonial events.

    Scope: Series consists of scrapbooks, photographs, identification cards, certificates, logbooks, notes, training manuals, and artifacts collected by Trooper Russell Patnode. Artifacts include State Police license plate number 38, a compass, police whistle, and Vermont State Police insignia. The records document the early history of the Vermont State Police from a trooper's perspective.
