The history and progress of the Vermont State Archives and Records Administration is documented in annual and legislative reports, both required or requested by the General Assembly.


The Records and Information Management Update or the “RIM Update” is issued quarterly and provides information about public records that is pertinent to State records officers, records liaisons and municipal officials.

The Keeping Appraised newsletter is issued quarterly to researchers and interested members of the public. It contains information about Vermont's archival public records.

Although no longer published, For the Record, a joint newsletter by VSARA and the Department of Information and Innovation (DII), provided valuable information and consistent advice about the managing electronic information.

Columns & Presentations

The “Voice from the Vault is the State Archivist’s column in the Secretary of State’s monthly publication, Opinions. The State Archivist and VSARA staff often speak at conferences and submit articles to professional journals. Select presentations are available online.

Formal Publications

The State Archivist position evolved from the formal position of “Editor of State Papers” within the Secretary of State’s Office. “State Papers of Vermont takes you to titles of the State Papers series, first authorized in 1912, which are primarily annotated texts from 18th Century documents but which also include some published finding aids. Additional publications that were not part of the State Papers series are also available online.
