Tuesday, August 5, 2008 Secretary of State Deb Markowitz will conduct a training session for town clerks and board of civil authority members on Tuesday, August 5, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Weathersfield town office. This workshop is to help prepare election workers for the upcoming election season. Secretary of State Markowitz and Elections Director Kathy DeWolfe have scheduled 10 such workshops around the state before the primary in September. Vermont law requires the office of the secretary of state to “organize regional workshops for election officials, provide them with informational materials about the conduct of elections and recounts and otherwise help them run elections in conformance with state and federal law.” 17 V.S.A. Section 2457. The regular presiding officer of each town or an assistant designated by the board of civil authority is required to attend at least one of these election workshops every two years. All election officials are encouraged to attend and it’s not too late to sign up. Interested parties should call their local municipal clerk to register. Go to http://www.sec.state.vt.us/municipal/ to see the remaining schedule of workshops. ###
