THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE WILL BE OPEN UNTIL 9 PM.
PLEASE CALL 802-828-2363.

  • Voters may request absentee ballots until 5:00 pm or the closing of the town clerk’s office on this day. An authorized person, on behalf of an absent voter may apply for an absent voter ballot not later than 12:00 noon on this day. 17 V.S.A. § 2531(a). Clerks must make a list of absent voters and post it in their offices. 17 V.S.A. § 2534.

  • Board of Civil Authority must appoint a Presiding Officer if the Town Clerk or other regular Presiding Officer is unable to preside at the Australian Ballot portion of Town Meeting or if more than one polling place is used. 17 V.S.A. § 2552.

  • Town Clerk or other Presiding Officer must notify Election Officers of their hours and duties. 17 V.S.A. § 2455.

Tuesday, March 2, 1999
TOWN MEETING DAY

THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE WILL BE OPEN

  • (Before polls open) In towns using Australian Ballot, Town Clerk must give Election Officials a list of those voters who have already cast absentee ballots. 17 V.S.A. § 2548 (a).

  • (Before polls open) In towns using Australian Ballot, Presiding Officer must post copies of the warning and notice and sample ballots. Also, signs should be placed on or near the ballot boxes explaining procedures for depositing ballots. 17 V.S.A. § 2523.

  • In towns using Australian Ballot, a list of absentee voters must be posted at polling place (s) and in Town Clerk’s office upon opening the poll, and must remain posted until all votes are counted. 17 V.S.A. § 2523.

  • Towns using Australian Ballot must open polls no earlier than 6:00 am and no later than 10:00 am (opening hour set by Board of Civil Authority). Polls remain open until 7:00 pm. 17 V.S.A. § 2561.

  • Moderator opens business meeting at the time established by Selectboard (unless town voted otherwise at a preceding meeting). 17 V.S.A. § 2655, 2657.

  • Presiding Officer must ensure that there is no campaigning of any kind and no campaign literature displayed, placed or distributed inside building containg a polling place. 17 V.S.A. § 2508.
