I have submitted my resignation as elections director to Secretary Markowitz, effective April 9, 1999 in order to take a new job as deputy commissioner of the Vermont Department of Taxes.

I would like to take this opportunity to convey how much I have enjoyed working with you during my tenure in the Secretary of State’s Office. When I was a novice you were very patient, and I will always remember the goodwill tendered me.

Sometimes I told you things you didn’t want to hear, and at other times you told me things I didn’t want to hear. At times we agreed to disagree. We navigated the changes in election and municipal law (not without some gnashing of teeth) coming close, at times, to losing our collective sense of humor but somehow persevering.

I leave with deep respect for your dedication and professionalism. Thank you for allowing me to share your triumphs and travails. Most importantly, thank you for your friendship.
