How to Unpack and View the professions database.

1. Download the Database file and Open  it to uncompress the data into a txt file.  The Database file appears as filename.exe and is self-extracting.

Double-Click or Otherwise Open the .EXE File.

A DOS window will open and uncompress the executable file into a text file.

When the executable file is finished expanding, you should see a new text file denoted as filename.txt.

 2. Load Microsoft Excel

3. Load the .txt file into Excel by following the steps below.

a. Click File

b. Click Open
c. Change file type to .txt
d. Navigate in Excel's open file window to locate the file on your computer
e. Open the file

4. An import box will open. The default selections are not correct so be sure to follow the instructions below.

a. CHANGE THE DEFAULT FIXED WIDTH RADIO BUTTON TO DELIMITED AND CLICK NEXT

b. UNCHECK THE TAB CHECKBOX AND TYPE IN A "PIPE" SYMBOL IN THE TEXTBOX LOCATED NEXT TO THE OTHER CHECKBOX.

The "PIPE" symbol is located on your main keyboard usually directly above the ENTER/RETURN Key.  To Type a "PIPE SYMBOL", Hold the SHIFT KEY down and press the key containing the "PIPE SYMBOL".

Note:  The Other Checkbox will then select itself. (See Step 2 0f 3)

 
c. CLICK FINISH AND THE SPREADSHEET WILL APPEAR WITH THE DATA PLACED INTO THEIR RESPECTIVE COLUMNS.

Note:  At this point the data is in the columns however the columns are not expanded so that all the data is visible.

d.  Here is a trick you can use to expand all the columns to reveal all the data...

Click in the Upper Left Hand Corner Of The Excel Grid.  This is the Blank Gray Square Above the 1 and to the Left of Column A.

Place your cursor between Column A and Column B until the cursor changes.

Double Click... All the columns expand.

5. The final step is to save the new spreadsheet to your computer.
